Jane Purple

The other day when I was biking on the boardwalk I bumped into our friend Jane Purple. Jane is very passionate about the color purple. When we were decorating our Christmas tree Jane stopped by our house and suggested where to add the purple ornaments and the results were great- this lady knows what she's talking about!
I love it- the world needs more color!

Red

This is Red. Whenever the sun is up he likes to set up his little camp site on the beach. Red is originally from L.A. but moved down here a few years ago. He was excited to hear that I'm from Sweden because so was his ex girlfriend. Tragically she passed away after (Red is explaining and pulls two fingers to his mouth and does a puff-puff sound) too much.

-You like my rastafari hat? Wait til you see what's under, Red says before I leave and show me his real hair.

(guess what color- you guessed right)

Unicorn Princess

Riding into the sunset; wings of glory. Graceful unity...night ride. No holds bar, freedom release. Reaching for the stars. Grasp a wish and hold on tight; get ready for the ride of your life. Golden friendship, endless summer..

Tonight my friend and neighbor Amber is having a goodbye party. She's been living in the first house on our little street, a house that random people will refer to as the "unicorn house". Our house, along with this one and another in between, is owned by the same people. They were build in the 1920's, which in the States is considered VERY old. When my roommates moved here they were told that all three houses were going to be knocked down within six months, and that they could do practically whatever they wanted with them- thus the paintings. It has now been 2 years and due to the financial crisis it seems like these houses will keep going strong for some more time!

Can't wait to have some margaritas now...

Slomo

If you live around the boardwalk or PB, one person you will most likely see sooner or later is Slomo. Slomo is somewhat of a legend and hard to miss as he skates around on his roller blades, with arms stretched out and classical music flowing out from his portable speakers. The tale has is that his real name is Dr. John Kitchin, a former neurologist who also goes by his self proclaimed alter ego Slomo (as in slow-motion).

Slomo has his own website where you can read more about his ideas on "the Zone". Slomo seems to think that slow-motion skating to music brings him into a supernatural realm of clarity (?). Don't really know how to comment on that. However, he even has had two books published and always brings a smile to my face when I see him. I strongly recommend you check out some of his video clips to get a better idea of why. http://www.iamslomo.com

The sky on fire

Hellu in cyber space! As you can tell this is my first post here so welcome! I'm taking a course in "Marketing via new media" and as part of it we have been asked to start a blog. Since I love the beach and live right next to it (or in front of it, behind it?) I thought I would share some of my observations and reflections on life here. Thanks for stopping by and hope you'll enjoy some of my pictures and tales.

This morning I went surfing for the first time. My roomie Sara (see left) taught me some of the basics. Honestly, it was just as hard as I had imagined, which is why I have stuck to boogie boarding up to now- it's crazy easy and so much fun. But sure enough, surfing is the real deal and the challenge of learning it is part of the fun. However, the water is cooold and by the end of the session I couldn't feel my feet or hands. It's not for nothing I've been given the nick name Swedish fish.

Later this afternoon as I biked home on the boardwalk the sun found its way through the clouds and literally turned the sky on fire. My God, I feel so spoiled by these sunsets..
